There’s much to give thanks for as we draw to the end of another year of university ministry! Some of our students have already completed their final assessments, while others are still busy with them. Praise God for how he’s sustained us through the year!
We gathered to look back on the year and celebrate God’s goodness among us on October 12th. It was a great evening of shared testimonies, good food and praise in song! Join us in giving thanks to God for all those who were connected into our community this year, who heard the gospel at one of our talks, who encountered Jesus through Luke’s Gospel in one of our small group Bible Studies, and who were encouraged to follow Jesus step by step in faith.
Pray for those who’ll be leaving us, that they would persevere in Christ and serve faithfully wherever he sends them. Pray too for those who’ll be traveling home over the summer vacation. Many are from families who don’t follow Jesus, contexts in which there aren’t great churches for them to grow and serve in, and through the pull of old friends find it easy to slip back into sinful patterns of life. Pray for their joy, perseverance and witness.
We continue to give thanks for the incredible opportunities we have at UJ, Wits and the surrounding areas. Do pray for continued access to the campuses, university residences and private residences in the New Year.
Letters to My Father
Some of our ladies gathered on October 19th to encourage one another and pray together. In working through the violence women in our society face daily, they wrote letters to our Father in heaven along with letters to a man or father figure in their lives.
“It was important that the ladies came together and dug deep to find where their pain with men lies, to find healing. The ladies wrote letters to a male figure that has caused them pain as well as letters to their heavenly Father. This was a moment of vulnerability for some and a realisation of hidden pain for others. Keolebogile Mbebe, our guest speaker, worked through the Lord’s Prayer with us, dwelling on God’s character and promises. That is our hope! It was a beautiful morning of prayer, tears, dancing and laughter along with lots of sweets and ice cream! It was also a morning of restoration and hope.” Zandile
Equip is a weekend away with our core students and Bible Study leaders at the start of the year. It’s an opportunity for us to spend quality relational time together and catch up after a long break! It also helps us plan and dream together as we prepare to serve side by side for the year. Pray for a fruitful time away in February as well as for those preparing to teach and lead on the weekend.
