Truth & Love

The third term has been an encouraging time of focused outreach and pushing on with our core students. It one sense, it’s been frantic as dozens of small group Bible studies were restarted, many socials and special events were hosted, including Ultra Heights, our Engage campus talks took off at UJ and at Wits, and our annual weekend away (Encounter) was hosted. Praise God for the dozens of new contacts that were made during this period. Pray that those who heard the gospel of Jesus would respond in faith, for our follow up, and as we seek to deepen relationships with these people, drawing them into our community. Below are a selection of photos from some of these events!

Women’s Month at FOCUS

Breakfast with a few ladies on the last Saturday of women’s month seemed fitting! Praise God that it happened! The aim of the breakfast was to foster sisterhood, and grow our love and care for one another around God’s word. It was a great morning of (organised) chaos, fun and family. Chaos in that we were all in the kitchen together making breakfast while others in the hall set up! Girls from different campuses were able to really connect, chat and laugh while they prepared a meal they would share together. Friendships started and bonds were built. We began the more formal part of our program with a slide show of pictures from different campuses, residences and Bible study groups, with the aim of encouraging one another in what God has been doing amongst us, and to encourage greater involvement and participation. Our hope is that spending time together like this will spill over into our commitment to our different small groups. We enjoyed a spoken word video by Jackie Hill Perry, then had time for prayer in small groups. We ended with more fun and laughter as we danced (in our heels!!) along to a fun video! We prayerfully look forward to the establishment of a more structured women’s ministry within FOCUS – something that serves more than our core, those around us too, with the gospel.

FOCUS Ladies’ Breakfast

Praise God the dozens of new contacts that were made during the focused period of outreach at the beginning of the third term. Praise God for those who have made a commitment to follow Jesus!

Pray for others who heard the gospel of Jesus and are still exploring his claims, that they would respond in faith. Pray for our staff and students in our ongoing follow up, and as we seek to deepen relationships with these people, drawing them into our community.

Praise God for the great start to Engage at Wits, and for the large numbers of students who have attended these talks! Pray that we are able to connect these students into small group Bible studies.

Praise God for the great attendance at Encounter 2018 (175 people attended), for challenging talks from 1 Cor. 12-14 on Spiritual Gifts, for hundreds of great gospel conversations over the weekend, and for students as they wrestle with the implications for everyday life.

Praise God for all the ladies who are part of FOCUS. Pray for wisdom as we seek to establish more structured women’s ministry within FOCUS.

Please pray on for our many small groups as we draw to the end of our studies in Jonah, and begin studies in Ruth in the fourth term. Pray that those in our small groups who don’t yet know Jesus as Lord would come to saving faith as we study his word, and that we would be maturing one another in Christ.

Please pray on as we seek to identify potential leaders for next year and begin to train them up.
