Doctrine
Our Doctrinal Basis:
FOCUS’ Doctrinal Basis are the fundamental truths of Christianity, as revealed in Holy Scripture, including:

The unity of the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit in the Godhead.

The sovereignty of God in creation, revelation, redemption and final judgment;

The divine inspiration, infallibility and inerrancy of Holy Scripture as originally given, and its sole authority in all matters of faith and conduct;
04
The universal sinfulness and guilt of human nature since the fall, rendering man subject to God's wrath and condemnation;
05
The full deity of the Lord Jesus Christ, the unique incarnate Son of God; his virgin birth and his real and sinless humanity; his death on the cross, his bodily resurrection and his present reign in heaven and earth;
06
Redemption from the guilt, penalty and power of sin only through the sacrificial death once and for all time of our representative and substitute, Jesus Christ, the only mediator between God and man;

Justification as God's act of undeserved mercy, in which the sinner is pardoned all his sins, and accepted as righteous in God's sight, only because of the righteousness of Christ imputed to him, this justification being received by faith alone;

The need for the Holy Spirit to make the work of Christ effective to the individual sinner, granting him repentance toward God and faith in Jesus Christ;

The indwelling of the Holy Spirit in all those thus regenerated, producing in them an increasing likeness to Christ in character and behaviour, and empowering them for their witness in the world;

The one holy, eternal and universal church, which is the Body of Christ, and to which all true believers belong;

The local church as the manifestation of the universal church, the believers gathered there being the Body of Christ, and hence their privilege and duty to find and develop their gifts for the building up of one another. The fellowship of believers in the local church is to be characterized by holiness, devotion and the bearing of one another's burdens;

The two ordinances instituted by Christ, Baptism and the Lord's Supper; to be observed as acts of obedience and as perpetual witnesses to the central facts of the Christian faith;

The future personal return of the Lord Jesus Christ, who will judge all men, executing God's just condemnation on the impenitent and receiving the redeemed to eternal glory.
FOCUS recognizes the ecumenical creeds of the early church, i.e. the Apostles' and Nicene Creeds, and stands within the tradition of the Reformation principles of Sola Fide, Sola Scriptura, Soli Deo Gloria.

We are a reformed evangelical student ministry working in partnership with reformed evangelical local churches in Johannesburg and beyond to grow the gospel’s impact in the lives of university students.
We are a group of Christian students from a range of local churches who join together in inviting students from our universities to engage with the life-changing message of the Gospel.
We’re passionate about seeing students participate in the Great Commission by sharing their faith in Jesus with their peers. And as disciple makers, we train others to make disciples.
